June Summer Reading Events

Last month, we introduced Summer Reading and talked a lot about the reading portion of the program. In this post, we are going to tell you about all of the events happening throughout June.

Story Times

Story Times happen every Monday and Tuesday at 9:30am. During the summer months, Monday’s will be held in the library and Tuesday’s will be held at the Linear Park Pavilion.

Story Times are geared towards ages 2-6 and aim to set the foundations for young children to not only learn to read but also fall in love with reading! Ms. Carrie makes each Story Time fun, interactive, and unique with different stories, songs, and activities.

Our summer Story Time Series, Dino Tales, will feature lots of dinosaur books and activities. This series is sponsored by the Goddard Friends & Foundation.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Stuffed Animal Sleeepover is a huge hit each year! Have you ever wondered what it is like to roam the library after hours? Well, you can drop your stuffy off for one night, and they can find out! Stuffy’s can be dropped off on June 9th, and need to be picked up June 10th. When you pick them up, you can ask them all about the adventures they had at the library. You can also see what they get up to on our Facebook page the following morning.

Teen Tuesday

Need activities for your teen to participate in this summer? Have them check out our Teen Tuesday events! Teen Tuesday is a social group for teens ages 13-18. They meet every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6pm. We have done various activities with the teens, from game nights to art nights, movie nights, pizza parties, and more! Some teen favorites have been Among Us (In Real Life), Mafia, Dungeons and Dragons, and Mario Cart races.

Here is the summer schedule for Teen Tuesday:

  • June 9th - Movie Night

    • Join the teens to watch Jurassic Park! Drinks and popcorn will be provided.

  • June 23rd - Terrariums

    • This event fits perfect with our Summer Reading theme, Unearth a Story! What better way to celebrate than to create a tiny, self-sustaining terrarium. This event will require registration as we do have a limited amount of supplies. You can register two weeks prior to the event on our website calendar!

  • July 14th - Escape Room

    • Can you and your friends make it out in time? Find out at this event!

  • July 28th - Dino Diner

    • Join us to create and enjoy various dinosaur themed foods! Our starter will be a competition to create the best fruit dinosaur, followed by dinosaur shaped mini pizzas, and ending with dirt cups. This event will also require registration, available two weeks prior to the event on our website calendar!

Craft Labs

Craft Labs are returning for another summer! Each Wednesday from 10am to noon, we will have a craft set up outside the library (weather permitting). From June 10th through July 22nd, you can join us to see what craft we are creating!

Goddard Puppet Ladies

The Goddard Puppet Ladies bring books to life! Join them June 11th at one of two shows as they will bring Edwina, the Dinosaur Who Didn’t Know She Was Extinct to life! The first show will be at 9:30am and the second at 10:30am. You can register now on our website calendar!

Books & Conversations

Books & Conversations is our book club in partnership with the Goddard Senior Center. They meet the second Thursday of each month at 10am. For the months of June and July, they will meet in the library. They do not have an assigned book to read, just show up to share what you are currently reading and connect with other book-loving adults!

Book Bedazzling

Join us at the library to bedazzle a book! You can bring one of your own books to decorate, or choose from our selection.

This event is for adults ages 18+. Registration is required on our website calendar. Heart of Country will cater for this event.

Main Street Market falls on Sunday, June 14th from 2-5pm. You can join us in the library during this time for a fun Sunday Screening of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. We will have free popcorn and drinks to enjoy with the movie.

Handpan Dan

Have you ever heard the mesmerizing sound of a Handpan? Well, you can now at our event with Handpan Dan! The handpan produces a beautiful, unique sound that you will not want to miss.

Handpan Dan will be at the Goddard Community Center on June 18th at 9:30am. Registration for this event will be released June 4th.

Beading with Ms. Mary

On June 18th, join us in the library for a come and go beading event! Ms. Mary, a volunteer with our Friends & Foundation organization, will help us make beautiful beaded creations! Stop by anytime between 10am and noon.

Didgeridoo Down Under

The Didgeridoo Down Under Show is an energetic fusion of Australian music, culture, comedy, character building, storytelling, and loads of audience movement and participation. The didgeridoo has been played by Aboriginal Australians for at least 1,500 years, and it's known for its otherworldly sound. We'll explore the Outback and the Great Barrier Reef, we'll unearth Aboriginal artwork and artifacts, we’ll learn about amazing creatures like kangaroos and koalas ... and much more ... all while moving and grooving to the pulsing rhythms of the didge and worldly percussion instruments. The DDU Show is interactive, educational, motivational and super fun for all ages!

Didgeridoo will be at the Goddard Community Center on June 25th at 9:30am. Registration will be released on June 5th on our website calendar.

Women’s Self Defense Class

Join us with Grace & Grit Fitness for Women at the Goddard Community Center on June 25th at 6:30pm! Grace & Grit will teach all techniques and moves necessary to defend oneself.

This event will be for women and girls ages 6 and up. Registration will be released on June 5th.

Linear Park Movie Night

Join us at Linear Park for a Movie Night under the stars! We will watch Night at the Museum as soon as the sun sets.

Coloring Club

And, you can always just visit the library, even when there are no special events.
